Kathakali fete to begin on December 19

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kathakali, the classical art form of Kerala, is set to transcend the language barrier.

The Nehru Yuva Kendra, Thiruvananthapuram and Sree Vidyadhiraja Sabha will jointly organise a four-day Global Kathakali Fest here from December 19.

Different languages

The event will project Kathakali through different world languages, including Tamil, Chinese (Mandarin) and Malay.

Chairman of the Singapore-based Bhasker’s Art Academy K.P. Bhasker and his team will present the programme at the Theerthapada Mandapam.

The academy is a branch of Nrithalaya, an institution dedicated to the training of classical arts.

International audience

A press note quoting the district youth coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra, said the programme was designed to appeal to an international audience.

“It is an attempt to promote Kathakali as a global art form without diluting its pristine classical texture,” the press note said.
