Child dies after falling into water pit

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A nine-year-old boy who accidentally fell into a water-filled pit at a flat construction site in his neighbourhood at Gowreesapattom two days ago died at a private hospital in the city on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Rohit, son of Ramesh Kumar and Krishnakumari. He was a student of Arya Central School.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon. The boy had gone to the construction site next door to look for a ball that was hit outside the compound while playing. His father went in search of the boy after he did not return even after a while. The child’s slippers were found floating in the water-filled pit, which is said to have been dug up for fixing the lift. The father managed to fish out the boy from the pit and rushed him to a hospital.

The child was in the intensive care unit for the past two days but died today.

The body has been kept in the mortuary of Medical College Hospital.
