BANGALORE: The Kalasipalya police arrested six persons, including two pre-university students, who had allegedly murdered “Jadeja” Ravi, a member of the Mandya City Municipal Council, in Mandya on December 7.

Hired

During interrogation, the accused claimed that Ashok Pai of Mandya had hired them to eliminate his rival “Jadeja” Ravi.

Through his associates Pai had approached two Bangalore gangsters “Kothi” Rama and Janardhan, who are lodged in Chitradurga Prison, to arrange for the hired killers, the police said.

Instructions

On the instructions of the two jailed gangsters, Pai’s accomplice “Kulla” Jagga took the six youths to Mandya. After meeting Pai, the six-member gang planned and executed the murder, the police said.

The arrested have been identified as Umesh alias Umre (22) of Ganganagar, Mahendra alias Rajendra (24) of Kamalanagar, Hemanth (19) of Kamalanagar, Vinod (19) and Vinay (19), PU students from Ramanagar, and Chetan (22), a photographer with a local Kannada daily in Mandya.

History sheet

There is a history sheet against Umesh in the Kamakshipalya police station and he is the brother-in-law of the slain gangster “Machcha” Manjunath, according to the police.

After the murder, “Kothi” Rama did not pay money to the accused.

Thus, the youths were planning to rob people near Abhiman Studios on Subramanyapura Main Road, the police said.

On a tip off, a police team led by the Kalasipalya Inspector, S.K. Umesh, arrested them, while four of their accomplices managed to escape in a van, the police said.
