TIRUNELVELI: Chairman of the Rajas Group of Companies and Educational Institutions, S. Arulraja alias S.A. Raja of Vadakkankulam, one of the accused in the case relating to the murder of former Minister Aladi Aruna, survived a bomb attack on his vehicle on Wednesday.
According to his son A. Jhonsel Raja, Mr. Raja and his wife Sophia Raja, were going to their farm near the Manickamputhur junction in a car when they were attacked. They were about to get down at the farm around 7.15 a.m. when a stranger in Ayyappa devotee attire told car driver Amirthalingam that he had come to invite Mr. Raja for his sister’s wedding.
When the driver told him that he could meet Mr. Raja only at his office after 9.30 a.m., a group of seven unidentified persons came to the spot in a car and on two motorcycles.
As Mr. Raja was getting down, the gang hurled country bombs at the car. Mr. Amirthalingam sustained injuries while Mr. Raja fainted in the impact of the explosion. They were rushed to a hospital at Nagercoil.
Superintendent of Police C. Sridar visited the spot. Four unexploded bombs were recovered from the site of the incident, according to the police.
