Panchayat president gheraoed over water crisis
Staff Reporter
Hosur: More than 200 residents of Kamaraj Nagar, Anna Nagar and Bazaar street on Thursday laid siege to the Block Development Office in Shoolagiri town demanding early solution to the water crisis. The residents later gheraoed the Shoolagiri panchayat president, Thayappan urging him to take immediate steps to supply potable water on a regular basis.
The protesters accused the panchayat authorities of not paying attention to the water problem even after the crisis became acute recently. They alleged that officials had failed to make any temporary arrangements to the ward, which was facing acute water shortage. Though repeated representations were made to officials concerned they had not initiated any action in this regard. Due to lack of water supply residents had to traverse a long distance to get potable water. Panchayat officials had earlier announced that they would supply water after assessing the situation. But water was still not supplied they claimed. With severe water scarcity surfacing in the area the panchayat should take immediate steps to solve the problem they said. The protestors withdrew after officials promised to look into the issue.
