NAGAPATTINAM: Nagapattinam district has exceeded the Flag Day collections for the year 2006-07 and has achieved a total collection of Rs.14.20 lakh against the target of Rs.9.20 lakh, said Collector Tenkasi S. Jawahar here on Thursday. The Collector said that the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare in the district was rendering good service to the ex-servicemen by providing them all assistance and job opportunities. Mr. Jawahar pointed out that more than Rs.20.50 lakh was distributed to 108 ex-servicemen who served in World War II at the rate of Rs.700 per month and 192 widows of ex-servicemen at Rs.500 per month during 2006-07. Assistant Director of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Nagapattinam, K. Somu, said there were 3,110 ex-servicemen and 1,102 widows of ex-servicemen in the district and were being provided all assistance. He pointed out that ex-servicemen were being appointed as security personnel in banks, commercial establishments and temples.
