The Civil Registration System (CRS) said the sex ratio of children between the age of 0 to 6 years has increased during this period. For that year, the child sex ratio at the time of birth had shown slight improvement as it increased to 823 per 1000 males. In December 2006, the sex ratio among children further increased to 857 females per thousand males, she said. The Minister said the district authorities have seized and sealed 100 ultrasound machines which were violating provisions of the PNDT Act. As many as 5760 inspections of various ultrasound clinics have been conducted. Registration of 165 ultrasound centres have either been suspended or cancelled for violation of provisions of the PNDT Act, she added. Schemes aimed at improving the health of mothers and children were implemented and the results were encouraging, the minister said. She said 950 ultrasound clinics and 66 genetic counselling centres have so for been registered under the Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques Act in the State.
