3 excise men hurt in attack

Rourkela: Three persons, including two constables of the Excise Department, were critically injured when they were attacked by armed villagers protesting against the raid on a liquor shop at Sargipali, about 130 km from here, the police said on Thursday.

An 18-member excise squad, including some police officials, raided the country liquor shop on Wednesday night and seized huge quantity of unauthorised liquor, they said. The party was attacked by armed supporters of the vendor, they added.

Excise constables Girish Panda, Bharat Mishra and driver Sumanta Nayak were injured seriously. Shop owner was absconding. – PTI
