Government has stopped grant-in-aid to 26 colleges DAVANGERE: The Federation of University and College Teachers Association of Karnataka has condemned the Government’s decision to stop grants to over 26 grant-in-aid colleges in the State. The decision had resulted in non-payment of salaries to 1,000 teaching and non-teaching staff of the 26 colleges for the last two months. Federation president C.H. Murigendrappa told presspersons here on Thursday that the Government had stopped grants to 26 colleges saying that the colleges were given B grade or less by the NAAC (National Accreditation and Assessment Council). He questioned the quality assessment of NAAC and he asked whether it was possible for NAAC to assess a college within few hours of its visit. He questioned the way in which the NAAC assessed the academic standards of the college, infrastructure facilities and qualifications of teaching staff and he said that NAAC assessment of colleges was not scientific nor was there any logic. He said that NAAC had not been allowed to assess the quality of grant-in-aid colleges nor grants were stopped to any grant in colleges in any other State. He said NAAC representatives had claimed over Rs. 60,000 as TA and DA (travelling allowance and dearness allowance) from the colleges which they had visited. Apart from this, the NAAC representatives had demanded other luxurious treatment and the colleges which refused to give them luxurious treatment, were graded below B grade, he alleged.
