The construction of 570 school buildings has been completed


DHARWAD: Dharwad district has been sanctioned Rs. 8 crore under the Union Government-sponsored drinking water supply project for rural areas.

This was disclosed by Chief Executive Officer of the Dharwad Zilla Panchayat M.G. Vijayakumar during the review meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) here on Thursday.

Mr. Vijayakumar said that Rs. 4 crore had already been released, of which Rs. 3 crore had been utilised. He directed officials to expedite work on the project.

Similarly, Rs. 6.32 crore had been earmarked for drinking water supply in rural areas from funds provided by the State Government, he said. He directed officials to complete 60 per cent of the work by the end of the month.

President of the zilla panchayat Subhash Dyamakkanavar said that the panchayat had sanctioned the construction of 7,606 Ashraya houses in the district and asked officials to complete the work at the earliest. Reviewing the progress of work being done under the Jala Nirmala scheme at Koliwad, Hunachi and Malligawad villages, Mr. Dyamakkanavar asked officials to expedite the work.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction R.C. Halagatti said that 570 of the 947 school buildings being constructed under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan were ready. During the current financial year, the construction of 109 school buildings had been taken up, he added.

Progress

The progress achieved under various government schemes such as Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana, Swarna Jayanti Grameen Rozgar Yojana and other schemes under the departments of Horticulture, Cooperation, Animal Husbandry and Social Welfare were also reviewed.

Mr. Dyamakkanavar directed officials to take steps to complete the ongoing projects before the end of the financial year.

He asked them to utilise the funds earmarked for various projects before March 31. Vice-president of the zilla panchjayat Rukmavva Lamani, project director Umesh Kusugal and others were present.
