TAMBARAM: The watchman at an ATM (Automated Teller Machine) kiosk in Madipakkam stumbled upon a parcel containing ten bullets on Monday. Police are interrogating a Nanganallur-based businessman in this connection. Madipakkam police said Raja, the watchman at the kiosk on Medavakkam Main Road, stumbled upon the parcel left behind at the facility on Monday. As no one came to claim it by Tuesday evening, he opened it and found a box of sweets, a letter and ten .303 bullets. He contacted the police control room. A woman sub-inspector rushed to the spot and seized the parcel. The letter was allegedly written by a businessman living in Nanganallur, who was earlier arrested on charges of possessing pirated CDs but later discharged as the charges were not proved, police said. Senior policemen questioned the businessman who pleaded innocence. Youth killedA 23-year-old youth was killed and another injured when they fell off a motorcycle by which they were travelling on Chennai Bypass near Tambaram on Wednesday. Jagadeesh (23) of Ponni Amman Koil Street, Tirumullaivoyal, had gone to Tindivanam to attend the funeral of a friend’s father. Pandian, his friend and resident of Avadi, had accompanied him. They were returning home and around 1.30 a.m. on Wednesday, the motorcycle is reported to have rammed a heap of construction material dumped on the road side at Pulikuradu near Tambaram. The youths fell on the road and sustained head injuries. While Jagadeesh was killed on the spot, Pandian is receiving treatment for injuries. Mobile phones stolenMobile phones were burgled from a showroom on Mount – Poonamallee Road, St. Thomas Mount, on Wednesday . St. Thomas Mount police said Mario, owner of the shop, had locked the showroom on Tuesday night. When he returned on Wednesday, he noticed the shutter broken open. In his complaint to the police, he said more than 100 mobile phones were burgled. In addition, more than Rs. 50,000 was also burgled. Investigations revealed that the burglary took place around 6 a.m. Police said some merchants in the area had seen a group of men carrying a bundle out of the showroom and taking it in a call taxi.
