“The BJP will help the people of Delhi in getting rid of the Sheila Govt. in the Assembly elections” The BJP leader charged that various depts of the Delhi Govt. are playgrounds for touts and brokers NEW DELHI: After Gujarat the Bharatiya Janata Party is now eager to spread its Hindutva agenda in Delhi as well. Addressing a press conference at the Delhi BJP headquarters here on Wednesday after returning from Gujarat where he had been campaigning for the party, Dr. Vardhan also denounced the Delhi Government for being soft on terror and urged the people to oust it in the Assembly elections in 2008. He claimed that “Delhi has become a haven for terrorists. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has not taken any decision on the file of Afzal, who had been sentenced to death by the Supreme Court in the Parliament attack case.” Dr. Vardhan charged that during the nine year rule of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, the social, economic, cultural fabric and the heritage of Delhi had been destroyed. Stating that people had already shown their intentions in the MCD elections, Dr. Vardhan said “the BJP will help the people of Delhi in getting rid of the Sheila Government in the Assembly elections”. The BJP leader charged that various departments of the Delhi Government have become the playgrounds for touts and brokers as no work can be transacted there till bribes were offered. While ignoring the matter for nine years, he said, it is only recently that the Delhi Government has in view of the impending elections decided to frame stern laws to improve the working in these departments. Even the much-publicised Sonia Vihar water treatment plant is not working to its full capacity as yet, he charged, adding that in the field of power too things have gone from bad to worse. “After five years of privatisation, three increases in power tariff, installation of low grade fast reading meters, the Government is still bent upon increasing the tariff.” As for the “other failures”, he said the Delhi Govt has not been able to get even a single unauthorised colony regularised, jhuggi dwellers have not been issued alternate plots, Lal Dora area of the villages has not been extended, industries have not been provided amenities in areas like Bawana and 40 per cent of the ration card holders are not getting supply from the Public Distribution System.
