KOCHI: Cochin Customs will operationalise the Risk Management System (RMS), which is a close cousin of the ‘Green Channel’ at airports, in order to speed up cargo clearance at Kochi port on Friday. D.D. Ingty, Customs Commissioner, told a news conference here on Thursday that the RMS, an electronic system to clear consignments, would reduce the `dwell time’ and thus cut the transaction costs. It would benefit traders and increase their competitiveness. Kochi is the 13th customs location to have introduced the RMS, he said. The Central Board of Excise and Customs, by making use of advances in information technology, introduced the RMS to facilitate quicker clearance of imported goods. Mumbai adopted it first in late 2005.
