JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has initiated the process for revising minimum wages from Rs. 80 per day following a recommendation made by the Consultative Committee and is likely to bring into effect new rates by March next year. The Minister of State for Labour, Babulal Verma, stating this at a meeting of the Centre’s Permanent Labour Committee in New Delhi on Thursday, affirmed that the social security of organised and unorganised labourers was high on the State Government’s agenda. He said the Government was taking steps to generate productive employment. Child labourers rescuedMr. Verma pointed out that over 150 child labourers were rescued during a fortnight-long drive in the State recently and the children were being rehabilitated. Labour Ministers from all States attended the meeting. Mr. Verma said Rajasthan was the first State in the country to appoint a Livelihood Mission. It is headed by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, while its Deputy Chairman and CEO is former Chief Secretary M.L. Mehta. The Mission’s annual budget is of the order of Rs.20 crore. It has provided employment to about 24,000 young men after giving training to them. Mr. Verma said the State Government had set the target of ensuring employment for 40,000 young men by March next year after improving their skills through training.
