Panther kills girl
Staff Reporter
VALPARAI: An 11-year-old daughter of an estate worker was killed by an animal on Wednesday night. Forest officials claimed it was a panther. The incident took place at Villoni Estate, which shares border with reserve forest near here.
Forest Department officials said that Kausalya went missing since 7 p.m. on Wednesday after she had gone to attend nature’s call.
Her parents thought that she had gone to a friend’s house nearby in the labour quarters. During search her body was found in the nearby bushes with her left leg and head ravaged by an animal.
Post-mortem was conducted at Valparai Government Hospital.
Pollachi Sub-Collector Vijay Pingale inspected the spot and instructed the municipal officials to install more streetlights in the area. Noting that it was a part of the ongoing man-animal conflict, Mr. Pingale asked the officials to remove the bushes to increase visibility in the nearby private forests.
Forest Department will give a solatium of Rs. 1 lakh to the family of Kausalya.
