Title for Sankaranarayanan

IN RECOGNITION: M. Nageswaran, General Manager, Regional Services, Southern Region, Indian Oil Corporation (right), conferring the ‘Sangeetha Kala Nipuna’ title on vocalist T.V. Sankaranarayanan in Chennai on Wednesday.
CHENNAI: The 56th art festival of the Mylapore Fine Arts Club began on Wednesday.
Inaugurating the festival, M. Nageswaran, General Manager, Regional Services, Southern Region, IOC, said Chennai is the face of Carnatic music. Mr. Nageswaran conferred the title, ‘Sangeetha Kala Nipuna,’ on eminent vocalist T.V. Sankaranarayanan who, he said, was a disciplined artist. His musical talent earned him a large number of ‘rasikas.’ The award carried a gold medallion, a purse of Rs.5,000, a citation and a shawl.
Natarajan, former Director, Doordarshan, Chennai, said Mr. Sankaranarayanan was one of the musicians who sang according to the situation, and after realising the mood of his audience.
Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty, president, Mylapore Fine Arts Club, and S.A.K. Durga, a musicologist, spoke.
