Bangladeshi freedom fighters to participate in Vijay Diwas

Staff Reporter

KOLKATA: Eighteen freedom fighters from Bangladesh (popularly known as ‘Mukti Jodhas’), who took part during that country’s liberation struggle in 1971, will participate in the Vijay Diwas celebrations here on December 16.

Vijay Diwas commemorates the victory of the Indian armed forces over Pakistan that led to the creation of Bangladesh. It is celebrated every year on December 16, the day Dhaka fell to the Indian forces, in memory of the soldiers, sailors and airmen who lost their lives in that battle.
