TIRUPATI: The famous ‘Suprabhatham’ which reverberates daily in the hill temple of Lord Venkateswara at 3 a.m. will temporarily go off the air from December 17 following the onset of ‘Dhanurmasam’.

Instead, the priests will recite verses from Andal’s ‘Tiruppavai’ during the period which will last till the Bhogi festival.

Old convention

Same is the case with all the Vishnu temples located elsewhere in the country, in line with an age-old convention.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is arranging a daily discourse on ‘Tiruppavai’ along with other places at its Annamacharya Kalamandiram here from December 16.

It will be launched ceremonially at the Kalamandiram in the presence of the TTD’s Periya Jeeyar and the TTD top-brass. The TTD’s Alwars Divya Prabandha Project will be arranging similar discourses during ‘Dhanurmasam’ at all its information centres including the ones operating at Chennai and Hyderabad, for the benefit of devotees.

Flower donations

Meanwhile, the TTD has called for donation of flowers from the devotees for the ‘Pushpa Yagam’ slated to take place on December 15 in the temple of Goddess Padmavathi at Tiruchanoor at the end of the ongoing Kartika Brahmotsavams.

In a release, the TTD stated that devotees could donate flowers like rose, lily, scent-jaji, Maruvam, lotus, jasmine, chamanthi, kanakambaram, sampangi, dhavanam, ganneru, thulasi, bilvam, mogili, masa-pathri etc weighing not less than five kg for use in the ‘pushpa yagam’ when the deity would be offered tonnes of flowers of different hues.

The flowers may be sent to the Garden Manager, Tiruchanoor temple (Ph: 9849817899), the release added.
