Olga overcomes Sonia Dayal

MUMBAI: Israel’s Olga Blank wore down the top seed Sonia Dayal 7-6(4), 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the MSLTA-ITF junior tournament at the Ranade Tennis Centre here on Thursday.

The Indian, who got in as a wildcard, dropped serve twice in the second set after trading breaks once each with her Israeli rival in the first set.

India’s Reshmi Teltumde and Israeli Angelika Aliev, the second seed, will contest the second semifinal. Sonia later teamed up with Shweta Rana to get past Ankita Rana and Garima Vatwani 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 in the doubles semifinal.

India’s Karanuday Singh, top seed in the boys’ category, is in line for a double. He will meet the fourth-seeded James Richardson (Great Britain) in the singles semifinals, and also booked a doubles final berth partnering Abhijeet Tiwari.

Doubles (semifinals): Sonia Dayal-Shweta Rana bt Ankita Raina-Garima Vatwani 7-5, 3-6, 6-3; Tanvi Shah-Reshmi Teltumbde bt Aliev Angelika-Greta Skripnik (Isr) 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Boys (quarterfinals): Karanuday Singh bt Mathew Thompson (GBr) 6-4, 6-0; James Richardson (GBr) bt Adil Hakeem (Aus) 6-0, 6-2; Lewis Barnes (GBr) bt Ronak Manuja 6-2, 4-6, 6-4; Riccardo Sinicropi (Ita) bt David Thompson (GBr) 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
