SAI ‘B’, Postal enter semifinals

BANGALORE: Sports Authority of India ‘B’ and Postal clinched berths in the semifinals of the State ‘A’ division league hockey tournament with victories here on Thursday.

SAI ‘B’ shut out Madras Engineering Group ‘B’ 4-1, while Postal defeated Dhanraj Ballal Hockey Academy 3-1.

Sports Authority of India ‘B’ shot into lead through Nagaraj (5th). MEG ‘B’ made it an evenly contested first-half with Pruthvi Shetty equalising in the 24th. But in the second half Somanna (36th) and Ramesh’s double strike (52nd &58th) sealed the fate for MEG ‘B’.

Well served

Postal was well served by Prakash Chalke (31st) and Jijed (38th &52nd) in its victory over Dhanraj Ballal Hockey Academy. Ponappa (57th) scored DBHA’s only goal.

In another match, Rail Wheel Factory trounced Flying Hockey Club 7-2.

A treble

Poonacha (27th, 39th & 47th) notched up a treble and was supported by Sampath (18th), Ravi Kumar (38th), Arun Ravi (45th) and Jayaraj (46th).

Flying Hockey Club’s scorers were Dharmendra (36th) and Anthony Vimal (57th).

Reserve Bank of India scored a narrow 3-2 win over Indian Telephone Industries.

Jeevan (24th), Thanu Nanjappa (47th) and Srikanth (52nd) scored for the winner, while Vinoba (53th) and Vinay (56th) found the target for ITI.

Pioneer Corps Training Centre will play SAI ‘B’ in the first semifinal and Centre of Excellence will clash with Postal in the second semifinal on Friday.
