HUBLI: Dr. Shivanand Doddamani, medical superintendent of Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), who was shot at by an unidentified assailant on Monday, was shifted to KLE Hospital Belgaum on Thursday. KIMS director Dr. M.G. Hiremath told presspersons that a decision in this regard was taken after reviewing his health condition. He said the patient was fully conscious and well oriented. Earlier in the day, a team of senior doctors of KIMS headed by Dr. Hiremath and comprising Dr. Safia Sheikh, Dr. B.S. Madakatti, Dr. H. Mallikarjun Swamy, Dr. D.S. Shailendra, Dr. Madhuri Kurdi, Dr. Gurushantappa Yaligachin and Dr. N.I. Hebasur reviewed the health condition of Dr. Doddamani, who sustained four bullet injuries in the incident. The team concluded that for the last 48 hours the patient’s condition had been stable. However, he still required intensive care and monitoring. Following improvement in Dr. Doddamani’s condition, his statement in connection with the incident was recorded on Wednesday night. Following a request by the police, Hubli tahsildar S.S. Nagathana recorded Dr. Doddamani’ statement. According to sources, based on the statement of Dr. Doddamani, the police have been able to make some progress in the case and that some persons had already been interrogated. Several political leaders from the region, including the former Ministers Jagadish Shettar and Basavaraj Horatti, Pralhad Joshi, MP, and M.P. Nadagouda, MLC, and others visited KIMS Hospital on Tuesday and Wednesday to enquire about the health of Dr. Doddamani.
