Bills: CM hopeful
Special Correspondent
KOLKATA: The West Bengal government is hopeful that the Bills pertaining to the granting of Sixth Schedule status to the Darjeeling hills would be passed by Parliament in the next session, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said in the Assembly on Thursday.
An agreement was signed to pave the way for granting the status by the Centre, the State government and the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council, he added. Once enacted, the Bills would grant constitutional recognition to the Council, Mr. Bhattacharjee said in reply to a call attention motion by GNLF MLA Shanta Chettri.
