ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Interior Ministry confirmed the arrests of two people in Karachi with “linkages to extremist groups” but said there was nothing yet to suggest they were involved in any plot to assassinate President Pervez Musharraf. “Yes, there have been arrests of two people with linkages to extremist groups, but I do not know if there was any plot to assassinate the President,” ministry spokesman Brigadier (retd) Javed Iqbal Cheema told The Hindu. He said it was also not clear yet which extremist group they had linkages to, and investigations were on. A report by a Pakistani news agency called Online said intelligence agencies had foiled a plot to assassinate Gen. (retd) Musharraf after the arrest of Al-Qaeda operatives from Karachi’s Malir area.
