Citizens’ rights

Availability of medicines at affordable prices is the right of every citizen. The spiralling price of even ordinary medicines needs to be checked. Middlemen should be taken out of the scene. It is they who contribute to the price hike. They create scarcity by unethical means. The reportedly unethical practices of the All-Kerala Chemists and Druggists Association require urgent attention. Medicine is now a basic human requirement needed to maintain a healthy society. Anybody found creating shortage and resultant price hike must not be allowed to work in our society. Also, the government may consider tax concessions on the required raw material so that the tax burden is not passed on to the actual user.
