Traders plan sit-in to oppose VAT

Meerut: To oppose the implementation of value-added tax in Uttar Pradesh, a traders group has decided to organise sit-ins outside the houses of BSP MLAs on December 22.

At a meeting held in Lucknow, U.P. Udyog Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal decided to oppose the state government’s decision to impose VAT from January 1 next year.

The traders have also decided to submit memoranda to SP, Congress and BJP on December 23, requesting them to raise the issue in the state assembly, the district president of the Mandal, Shyam Bihari Mishra, said here on Friday.

He also said if the state government went ahead with VAT, the traders might resort to indefinite closer of shops.
