All smiles: Swimmer Shikha Tandon and former cricketer Syed Kirmani during the inauguration of a swimming pool and basketball court at Love Dale Central School in Belgaum on Friday. Belgaum: Former cricketer Syed Kirmani has underscored the need for due attention by parents and teachers on character building of children so that they grow up to serve the nation constructively. He was speaking after inaugurating a swimming pool and basketball court at Love Dale Central School here on Friday. The event coincided with the fifth annual sports day of the school. Mr. Kirmani stressed the need for effective moral education both at home and school. While taking their academics seriously, children and youth should also actively participate in extracurricular activities so that they were physically and mentally fit, he said. ‘Aim high’Swimmer Shikha Tandon, who was another star attraction on the occasion, asked the children to aim high and work hard to realise their ambitions. All those who were keen on excelling in sports and games must work hard with dedication and confidence, she said and added that they should also look forward to bring good name to the nation in their chosen field. Earlier, the students presented a march past. The inaugural ceremony was followed by various events and prize distribution programme.
