Ministers flayed for inaction on railway station issue
ARUPPUKOTTAI: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has criticised the two State Ministers from Virudhunagar district for not taking steps to make Aruppukottai railway station functional.
In a statement, its town secretary, M. Kannan, said that Aruppukottai railway station was opened by the former Chief Minister, K. Kamaraj. “The station opened by the Congress Government has been closed during the Congress regime,” he said.
Stating that the railway’s contention for closure of the station was owing to the gauge conversion work, he said that though the track has remained closed for months, no work has begun till date. “It is only to deceive the people of Aruppukottai, who are being slighted,” he said.
While one of the State Ministers successfully protested to create a new Railway Division in Salem, the two Ministers in Virudhunagar district have not shown any interest on the issue. The functioning of the station had nothing to do with gauge conversion work and a computerised reservation system could be made functional for the benefit of the people of the area.
At present, people were forced to spend time and money to travel to Virudhunagar or Madurai to make advance booking for train journey, Mr. Kannan said.
Rail roko plan
Stating that an earlier protest conducted by the AIADMK had not borne any result, he said the party would again seek people’s support through a rail roko at Virudhunagar.
