Budgetary allocation for implementing Sachar report

Staff Reporter

KASARAGOD: The next State budget will earmark an amount for implementing various provisions of the Sachar Committee report, said Paloli Mohammed Kutty, Minister for Local Self-Government and chairman of the 11-member committee appointed by the State government to submit a study report on the Sachar panel recommendations.

Addressing reporters at the Kasaragod District Collectorate after the maiden sitting of the committee in the State, Mr. Mr. Mohammed Kutty said the report would be implemented taking into consideration the realities in the State.

The committee is expected to submit its report by February 15, 2008, he said. The committee will conduct sittings in all the 14 districts in the State.

Mr. Mohammed Kutty said those who would not be able to hand over suggestions to the committee in person can mail it to commission. Though the social, economic and educational conditions of Muslims were pathetic in the country, in Kerala the community was better off. The Sachar report would be implemented taking into consideration various peculiarities existing in the State, the Minister said.

CPI State assistant secretary K.E. Ismail, MP, said the Union government was hampering discussion on the Sachar panel report in parliament. Though he wanted to raise it in Parliament, he could not, Mr. Ismail said. Representatives of various Muslim organisations met the panel and submitted memoranda. Panel members who took part in the sitting included K.T. Jaleel, MLA, and Kadakkal Abdul Azeez Moulavi.
