OAS aspirants turn restive

Delay in declaration of prelim results

CUTTACK: Orissa Administrative Service (OAS) aspirants in the State have threatened to launch agitation in protest against inordinate delay in publication of the preliminary examination results that was held almost eight months ago. Some aspirants on Friday staged a dharana here at the OPSC office and vented their ire.

The delay in declaration of results has put career prospects of nearly 33,000 OAS aspirants in jeopardy. The aspirants have urged OPSC officials to publish the result immediately and conduct the main examination as soon as possible, as some of the aspirants have been waiting for it for last seven years.

The aspirants have also demanded inclusion of more vacant posts in the Orissa Civil Services as current posts were advertised with the vacancies that existed about six years ago in mind. “The vacancies of recent years have not been included in the advertisement that was made for 380 posts including 73 OAS posts,” says S Mishra, an aspirant.

They have also demanded an enhanced pay scale for OAS recruits on a par with IAS scale as the OAS examinations are now being conducted in the UPSC pattern. “By the revised pattern of examinations, OCS examination has now assumed equal importance as UPSC examination for civil servants. Many other State Governments have done so,” said another aspirant A K Pani.
