CPI meet to discuss third alternative

Special Correspondent

Draft political resolution to be finalised in Chennai next month

Issue to be explored on socio-economic plank

Draft resolution to be posted on website

HYDERABAD: The 20th congress of the Communist Party of India (CPI) slated to be held from March 23 to 27 will discuss the possibility of building a third political alternative at the national-level.

The alternative would be explored on economic, social and political planks. The draft political resolution of the congress to be finalised by CPI’s national council in Chennai next month will propose the alternative. It would be circulated to all the 800 delegates and posted on the website for a public debate, CPI national secretariat member Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy and State party secretary K. Narayana said at a news conference here on Friday.

Mr. Reddy earlier launched the website of the congress, a hundred days ahead of its commencement. The site www:xxcongresscpi.com was also simultaneously launched in New Delhi.

Mr. Reddy said the congress will also discuss the issue of unity between Left parties and the need to strengthen secular forces. The progress made in the implementation of the resolution at the last congress at Chandigarh three years ago will feature in the discussions.

Referring to speculation that the Lok Sabha elections may be advanced, he said the Left cannot be responsible if elections were forced on the country as a sequel to the standoff between the Communists and the UPA government on Indo-US nuclear deal. The Left parties only wanted its operationalisation to be put off. “The Left is not keen on elections. The choice is left to the UPA. However, the UPA cannot shift the blame to the Left if polls become inevitable”, he remarked.

Needless controversy

Mr. Reddy said it was unfortunate that a needless controversy over Nizam’s rule was raked up in political circles.

The adverse effect of the rule continued to this day but some leaders highlighted only the glossy aspects projecting the Nizam as a champion of public.
