“Delhi Govt., Centre misleading residents of illegal colonies”

False promises about undertaking development works:Vardhan

Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan

NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan has charged that the Centre and the Delhi Government were misleading the nearly 50 lakh residents living in unauthorised colonies by making false promises about undertaking development works there.

Stating that all these announcements were being made keeping the next year Assembly elections in mind, he reminded that in the past nine years the Congress Government in Delhi had not regularised such colonies as promised.

The BJP leader said nine months ago Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy had announced in Parliament and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had said in the Assembly that more than 1,500 unauthorised colonies of Delhi would be regularised within 90 days. But still the word has not been kept.

“The Union Urban Development Ministry had through an advertisement in various newspapers also invited applications from more than 50 lakh residents of these colonies for their regularisation. Such applications have been invited for the fourth time by the Centre. The Congress has been playing this drama during every election, but not a single colony has been regularised till now,” he said.

Dr. Vardhan said the Central Government by making some changes in the definition of public land and private land has now said that development work would now be undertaken in these colonies. But, he said, it has now gone silent on the issue of regularisation.

In the dark

“The future of lakhs of residents of these colonies will be kept in dark by starting some development work in view of the forthcoming elections. The Court has already given orders for sealing and demolition in these colonies. The Centre and the Delhi Government have not stated in the Court till now that they are going to regularise these colonies soon,” he added.
