CPI(M) promises basic civic amenities in Shimla

Focuses on restoring regular water supply

Will fight against privatisation, outsourcing


SHIMLA: With a promise to ensure their presence in the Himachal assembly this time, the State CPI(M) has gathered all its energies to win the prestigious Shimla seat and has started concentrating solely in the capital. The party on Friday released a separate manifesto Shimla and promised to struggle for the cause of employees, workers and small entrepreneurs comprising majority of the population in the town.

The CPI(M) has pledged to restore basic civic amenities for the common residents and provide good infrastructure for tourism, developing the capital town as an IT hub, using hydrology techniques for increasing water supply in the town, regularising the hutments of poor labourers and developing new roads, sewerage system and health centres for the poor.

State Secretariat member Tikender Panwar said the party would use the funds coming under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission for augmenting the water supply and for dealing with severe water crises in the town. The party also committed to fight for restoring the hutments of poor which were demolished by the local Municipal Corporation. It has said that at least one biswa land should be given to all landless living in and around the town. The minimum wages should be raised to Rs.150 and be judged with the rising price index. He said the CPI(M) would fight against the rampant privatisation, outsourcing and against the unjust cut in the Government jobs. He demanded the filling of more than 40,000 vacant posts in the State.
