HYDERABAD: Lok Satta national coordinator Jayaprakash Narayan while welcoming the approval of the ‘Grama Nyayalayala’ Bill by the Union Cabinet suggested on Friday that each ‘nyayalaya’ should be set up in every mandal or one for several small mandals. Dr. Narayan, who had played a prominent role in drafting of the Bill, stated at a press conference here that along with rural courts mobile units should be constituted with clear powers. They should be autonomous and dispense justice within 90 days, as the Parliamentary committee’s decision of 180 days. Plea to CentreHe said if the Bill was implemented 15,000 additional judges would be needed. He urged the Centre to allocate funds for setting up courts under the Bill and administer them in local language. If such steps were taken people’s confidence in judiciary could be raised. Dr. Narayan stated that a party team during its recent tour in Yellareddy constituency in Nizamabad district found that people were angry with all parties because of ‘rampant’ corruption in the selection of beneficiaries and allotment of ‘Indiramma’ houses as also sanction of pensions. Hence, he suggested that the selection of beneficiaries and disbursal of pension should be made public in the ‘gram sabhas’ so that only genuine persons got the benefit.
