Foodgrains merchants’ plea to State Government
|
MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has criticised the State Government’s move to increase the fees levied at Road Transport Offices for various purposes.
In a statement issued here on Monday, association secretary, P. Subash Chandra Bose, urged the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, to roll back the “steep rise” in fees immediately in the interest of the public.
Learners’ licence
The fee for Learner’s Licence (LLR) was doubled to Rs.60 as was the registration fee for three-wheelers and other vehicles, which had been revised to Rs.400, he said.
The temporary registration fee for two, three and four-wheelers had more than tripled from Rs.40 to Rs.140 while the value of court fee stamp to be affixed in the applications had been increased 25 times from Rs.2 to Rs.50, said Mr. Bose.
Not acceptable
“The revision should be justified. Such a steep increase is not acceptable. We will oppose it,” he said.
The State Government should act immediately against the “brokers” in Road Transport Offices, “who take bribe and indulge in other illegal activities,” and also roll back the steep increase in fees, the association demanded.
