JAIPUR: Rajasthan faced a sudden shortage of 600 MW of power on Friday following a fall in temperature coupled with foggy conditions in the northern States. Public sector Discoms resorted to load shedding for an hour and a half to offset the scarcity. Official sources said here that power supply to the State was reduced as part of measures to protect the Northern Grid after heavy consumption of electricity led to disruption in 20 lines of 400 KV in Uttar Pradesh and a fault at the 400 KV sub-station in Ballabhgarh. The power production in the inter-State projects was abruptly reduced and the supply of electricity from inter-State power stations under bilateral agreements was cancelled. All the States were advised to draw electricity from the Grid within the revised permissible limits. According to the sources, the power supply in the State would normalise by late Friday night. The consumers are likely to get uninterrupted power supply from Saturday morning.
