Special Correspondent

NAGAPATTINAM: The Government has extended the time limit for the farmers to take up crop insurance till Saturday, said Collector Tenkasi S.Jawahar, here on Thursday.

The Collector said that the Government had allocated Rs.1.50 crore for providing subsidy in Nagapattinam district to the farmers on the crop insurance premium for the current year and pointed out that the district administration was taking steps to cover nearly one lakh farmers to take up crop insurance so that they could get compensation during the time of natural calamities.

Mr. Jawahar pointed out that small and marginal farmers would get 55 per cent subsidy in the crop insurance premium amount and 50 per cent for others.

The farmers have to pay a minimum premium of Rs.62 per acre on the basis of Agriculture department’s view of getting an assured paddy yield income of Rs.6,816 per acre.
