Coimbatore: The MRF Racing Challenge for two and four wheelers will be held at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam, near Coimbatore, on December 16. Tony Rodricks, MRF’s Motorsport Head, said the entries were very encouraging. “We have about 70 cars, an increase of about 20 compared to the previous race. We have also about 30 riders.” “If things change and improve in the same pace we might even have an international challenge from next year. We have invited drivers and riders from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Sri Lanka. And, they have shown great interest as well.” he added. The conference also marked the entry of the Tatas into Saloon car racing. “These cars have been built by J. Anand of Jayem Automotives in Coimbatore. It’s a big step forward because this is the first time a manufacturer from India is involved in making a saloon car. In fact, this opens a new era for people to prepare cars. For the next race, 10 of these cars will be ready to race,” said Rodricks.
