Osadolor stars in Youngmen SC’s victory

NEW DELHI: Youngmen SC scored a lone-goal victory over Hind-Ahbab FC in the SAIL-ONGC Delhi Soccer Association senior division league at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Friday. Nigerian Uyiosa Kelvin Osadolor netted the winner in the 28th minute.

Youngmen has six points from five matches while Hind-Ahbab has four from four. Youngmen will meet IAF (New Delhi) in its last league match.

In another match, Peerless-Tarun Sangha FC beat Shahdara FC 2-0. Srikanto Das scored both the goals, in the 29th and 54th minutes. Tarun Sangha has 11 points from five matches while Shahdara has four from five.

There will be no match in the league on Saturday and Sunday in view of the ONGC I-League match between JCT, Phagwara, and Dempo, Goa, to be played here on Sunday. — Special Correspondent

Natl. U-13 from today

Defending champion Vidit Gujarati, former World under-12 champion N. Srinath and Asian medallist Prasanna Rao will be among the leading title-contenders when the Parsvnath 21st National boys’ under-13 chess championship opens at the Bapu Samaj Sewa Kendra here on Saturday.

A participation of around 250 players is a record for this event. Some of the under-10 boys like World under-10 bronze medallist Prince Bajaj, Commonwealth under-10 gold medallist Vaibhav Suri and National under-8 champion Harshal Shahi are also likely to give a tough time to the older competitors. The top-three finishers from this 11-round event will represent India in the World and Asian championships next year.

Semifinalists spotted

Prashantha Vijay Sundar and Rohan Gide scored easy wins while Yannick Nelord and Ranjeet Virali Murugesan struggled to get past their opponents as the four made it to the semifinals of the DDA tennis tournament at the Saket Sports Complex here on Friday.

The results (quarterfinals): Men: Prashantha Vijay Sundar bt Rahil Makharia 6-3, 6-3, Rohan Gide bt P. C. Vignesh 6-3, 6-3, Yannick Nelord bt Palash Tiwari 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, Ranjeet Virali Murugesan bt Arjun Goutham 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Doubles: Murugesan and Prashantha bt Fariz Mohammed and Vignesh 6-2, 6-2, Goutham and Balaji Sri Ram bt Jitin Bishnoi and Yogesh Phogat 6-2, 6-4.

Women: Shalini Sahoo bt Ragini Vimal 6-2, 6-3, Bhawani Tirumurti bt Sindhu P. Nila 6-1, 6-0, Vishakha Sheoran bt Rajeshwari P. Raja 6-2, 6-2, Anushri Thammana bt Smita Rani Jain 6-3, 6-2.

Doubles: Vishakha and Ragini bt Anushree and Rajeshwari 6-2, 6-2, Shalini and Jilke Nelord bt Swarupa Radhae and Abhilasha Ahuja 6-3, 6-3.
