Santosh and Rachita Sarda clinch titles

BANGALORE: B. Santosh and Rachita Sarda bagged the titles in the under-18 section of the Mahila Seva Samaj State-ranking championship at the MSS courts here on Friday.

Santosh, with his good reach and steady groundstrokes, outslugged Sujith Sachidanand 6-2, 6-3 in the boys’ final, while Rachita prevailed over Akansha Kohli 7-5, 6-1 in the girls’ summit clash.

A. Kashyap retained the boys’ under-12 crown with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Prajwal Dev. It was Kashyap’s fourth successive win in the event. S.P. Ritu won the girls’ under-12 title beating Jeni Jacob 6-2, 6-4.

The results (finals unless stated otherwise): Boys: Under-18: B. Santosh bt Sujith Sachidanand 6-2, 6-3. Under-12: A. Kashyap bt Prajwal Dev 6-1, 6-2. Under-10: B.S. Rahul bt B.R. Nikshep 6-4, 7-5.

Girls: Under-18: Rachita Sarda bt Akansha Kohli 7-5, 6-1; Semifinals: Rachita bt S.P. Ritu 6-0, 6-0; Akansha bt Preethi Gokhale 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Under-12: S.P. Ritu bt Jeny Jacob 6-2, 6-4; Semifinals: Ritu bt B.R. Vaishnavi 7-0; Jeni bt Swetha Samuel 7-1. Under-10: Nupur Uma Shankar bt Azza 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

Schools tennis

The Glucovita inter-school tennis tournament will be held at the KSLTA Stadium from December 21 to 23. There will be team and open events, and students in the age group of 12 to 16 are eligible to participate.

For the team event, schools can field four to seven players and for open events, entries are restricted to two players per school. Entries close on Dec. 19. Further details may be had from the KSLTA.

Rajan stars for ABW

Rajan scored both the goals for Army Base Workshop which beat Bangalore Reds 2-0 in the ‘C’ division football league championship at its home ground on Friday. Rajan struck once in each half, in the 22nd and 46th minutes respectively.

There will be no matches in the ‘C’ division till Dec. 21, while the senior division and super league matches will be played at the BDGFFA Stadium from Saturday.

In the ‘A’ division, BHEL (EPD) will meet BUFC and in the super league KSP plays BEL on Saturday.

Route map of marathon

The Karnataka Amateur Athletic Association released the route map of the BSNL Bangalore international marathon scheduled to be run here on Sunday.

According to the schedule, the full marathon will start at 6 a.m., the half marathon at 6.15, and the celebrity run and wheel chair run at 9.15, all from Sree Kanteerava Stadium.

The full marathon route runs through Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha, Ulsoor Lake, K.R. Puram and then turns towards Baanswadi, HRBR Layout, Nagawara, Hebbal and returns on the same route to finish at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium. The half-marathon will be run on the same route but reach Bengondanahalli and return on the same route.

Satyanarayana, secretary, KAAA, said that the entries had crossed the 9,000 mark, including seven more foreign contenders.

ASC S&C triumphs

ASC School and College defeated St. Joseph’s College of Commerce 4-3, via tie-breaker, in the final of the inter-collegiate football tournament, organised by Rotary Club (Indira Nagar). The teams were locked goalless at regulation time.
