Honour for university professor

K. Muthuchelian

MADURAI: K. Muthuchelian, Professor and Head, School of Energy, Environment and Natural Resources, Madurai Kamaraj University, has been nominated as member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) headquartered in Switzerland.

The mission of IUCN is to influence, encourage and assist societies throughout the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable.

Dr. Muthuchelian, who is also the Director of Centre for Biodiversity and Forest Studies of the university, received the membership to IUCN’s Commission on Ecosystem Management in an official communication from Hillary Masundire, Chairperson of the Commission.

The communication said that work would be carried out through five priority themes: ecosystem approach, restoration, management tools, indicators of ecosystem status and ecosystem services.
