SMS in your mother tongue

BANGALORE: SMS Spice Telecom launched “Spice Local Lingo” an SMS service in 12 Indian languages, including Kannada, here on Thursday.

Launching the service, brand ambassador and actor Priyanka Chopra said corresponding in one’s mother tongue has the advantage of inserting a “punch” in the communication. The new service, she said, will appeal to the masses.Spice Telecom CEO Navin Kaul said the local lingo service can be downloaded on all Java-enabled handsets allowing the customers of the comfort of choosing from Kannada, Hindi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Bengali and Urdu. He said, “We believe that communicating in one’s mother tongue is very convenient and a lot of fun as it enables a person to be more expressive.”

Any Spice subscriber with a GPRS connection can download the lingo service from Spice portal http://wap.spicetele.com or can SMS the keyword “SLL” to 56199 to get the URL for download. The service has a language specific soft keypad and a message edit box, tocompose messages. Spice Karnataka Circle COO Rakesh Singh said the charges for the service are nominal.
