Worker’s wife seeks probe into husband’s death
Special Correspondent
TAMBARAM: The wife of a construction worker, who was killed in an accident at Chromepet on Monday, has alleged foul play and appealed to the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of her husband’s death.
Raja Mohammed (40) of M.G.R. Nagar in Pammal was a mason and working in a commercial complex under construction on Grand Southern Trunk, Chromepet. The construction site is some metres away from the police station.
On Thursday, Raja Mohammed fell from one of the floors and was rushed by fellow workers to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Police said that when the accident came to their attention, they were informed that the victim had lost his consciousness and fell on the ground.
However, the post-mortem report from Chromepet General Hospital revealed electrocution as the cause of accident.
The victim’s wife, Muneena Beevi, lodged a complaint, seeking a thorough investigation.
The police said the victim was carrying iron slabs that came into contact with live power cables at the three-storey commercial complex under construction.
