HAIRY TALES: Youngsters are spending extra hours and money too deciding which hairdo will add to their style. Hyderabad: Madhu Murthy, an engineering student, has an incentive to get up from bed. He gets a high when the mirror reflects his ruffled hair which complements his dishevelled appearance and earns him envious glances and a galore of compliments in the college bus. But the neat and clean look is neither in nor passé. It’s how you carry off your mane with style and confidence that ultimately matters. Days of the traditional barber are now numbered with ‘hairstylists’ ruling the roost. With the compulsive need of oozing attitude catching up among youngsters, they are spending extra hours deciding which hairdo will add to their style. “The trend is that there is no trend at all and the notion that college students sport trendy hairstyles is a wrong perception,” says Manick, hairstylist. Experimenting“Young professionals are the ones who are experimenting with their hair. The need is to have an international look and at the same time be presentable,” he adds. While the cropped look a la Dhoni and John Abraham is what young professionals are aiming at, the ‘messy look’ is quite popular among the party animals. And mind you, they are spotted with a different hairdo in every four to five weeks. ColoursMoreover, hair colours though in vogue, are no more used for highlighting strands. Natural colours like Iced Chestnut, Chocolate and light brown are most popular among ladies. Most of these colours are prepared by hairstylists and are ammonia free — a quality that gives a natural shine. “Those who are on the social circuit sport colours like Parline, Honey Chestnut, Golden Beige and Gold Blonde to name a few,” says Manick. MaintenanceStyling apart, it’s the maintenance that counts when it comes to being in sync with trends. Most people feel that managing long hair is a hassle while a few think otherwise. Long and short of it“I don’t feel that long hair is a problem because it gives a very sober look. On the other hand, people with short hairdos exude professionalism with their international looks,” says M. Swaroopa, a content developer for a software company. Whether it is a messy bird nest or a well-managed mane, whether it sports flashy hues or sober shades, youngsters are no longer bothered about shelling out those extra bucks to let their crowning glory have the best.
