Capturing the 1857 uprising
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: “Representations of 1857 – Recovering the Indian voice” is an exhibition of paintings and photographs of the 1857 uprising, considered by many to be the first war of Independence.
Sourced from museums and archives by the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), the images were digitised at the Victoria Memorial Museum in London and now offer a vivid insight into the uprising.
The 15-day exhibition is being organised by the Southern Regional Centre of ICHR to mark the 150th year of the 1857 uprising.
It will be open between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. till December 31 at the ICHR office in University Law College, Palace Road.
