Stolen moment: A glimpse of Kathak performance by dancers from Padatik Dance Centre of Kolkata NEW DELHI: Padatik Dance Centre of Kolkata will showcase its innovative Kathak presentations in solo, duet and choreographed form at India Habitat Centre here on December 19. This year, the Centre has worked on solo performances in Kathak by imbibing new movements and presentation style. The first half of the dance show ‘Vividha’ will be devoted to this type of presentation. It will be performed by upcoming talented dancers Aaheli Chakraborty and Anasua, who are both scholarship holders from the Nehru Children’s Museum. The second half will feature a duet and solo performances with live musicians. The evening would conclude with ‘Shrishti’ music by Louis Banks and Pandit Birju Maharaj. Besides new performers from Padatik Dance Centre, established dancers like Ritusri Chowdhury, who has performed in a number of well known festivals across the country, would open the evening with her new works. Described as a dancer with a difference, Sandip Mullick, will perform a solo. His innovative style is blended with lively expressions and movements. In choreography sound plays the biggest role. Unity in diversity in cultural and different ways of life adds various dimensions and colours to the choreography titled ‘Shrishti’. The choreography has been designed by Chetna Jalan, director of Padatik Dance Centre. A reputed Kathak dancer, Chetna along with her troupe performed a full length show at the Kuopio Dance Festival in Finland in 1989. Padatik Dance Centre will present another show at Garden of Five Senses on December 21 in which Souvik Chakraborty will perform. It has presented shows in various major festivals including the Khajuraho festival.
