Ordinance to protect doctors
HYDERABAD: Bowing to the demand of agitating doctors, the Government offered on Saturday night to promulgate an ordinance that will make an assault on a health worker on hospital premises as a cognizable and non-bailable offence. Medical Education Minister Galla Aruna said the draft of the ordinance would be placed for consideration of the Cabinet at its meeting here on December 17 before the enactment was issued.
In a statement, she said the Government believed there was a need to ensure safe working conditions for doctors. She appealed to the doctors to resume duties at once.
Ms. Galla Aruna said that the Government shared the sorrow and concern of the families of those affected by shortcomings in the medical services.
She said that a Grievance Redressal Authority in all the Government hospitals would be constituted to instil confidence in the public and improve services in the hospitals.
