HARD FACTS: State Women’s Commission chairperson D. Sreedevi inaugurating a seminar on ‘Justice for women in contemporary Kerala’ at the Government Engineering College in Kannur on Saturday. KANNUR: Kerala State Women’s Commission (KSWC) chairperson D. Sreedevi has said that women continue to be victims of social evils such as dowry system. Inaugurating a seminar on ‘Justice for women in contemporary Kerala’ organised by the Kannur University Union on the Government Engineering College campus at Mangattuparamba here on Saturday, Ms. Sreedevi said that advertisements in the media exemplified the way women were being treated as objects. Pornographic films and materials were also driving the youth to be victims of psychological perversion, she said. The KSWC chairperson also said that television serials targeting women force them to watch things that would never happen in their lives. University union chairman T.V. Prasad presided over the function. Syndicate member N. Babu Anto, N. Sukanya, P. Deepak, and T. Deepesh were among those present at the function.
