Hubli-Dharwad
Through another order the school has been shifted to Kamalapur Residents allege BJP leaders’ intervention in the issue
Seeking action: Residents of Yammikeri and Malamaddi, led by Congress leaders, submitting a memorandum to the district administration authorities in Dharwad on Saturday. HUBLI: Residents of Yammikeri and Malamaddi in Dharwad staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Saturday to protest against the shifting of a government high school sanctioned to their area. The protesters led by council member Raju Savadatti, Congress leaders such as Robert Daddapuri and Vasant Arkachari alleged that the school sanctioned to their area had been shifted because of the intervention of the local MP and former Minister belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). OrderAccording to the Government Order — DE 233, SES 2007 dated August 21 — official sanction was given to start a high school at the Yammikeri primary school No. 11 in Dharwad. However, through another order — ED 245 SES/07 dated October 23 — the high school sanctioned to Yammikeri was shifted to Kamalapur in Malamaddi, they said. The protesters alleged that it was because of the BJP leaders’ intervention that the high school had been shifted. They said that there was no government high school in their area, and if they had to send their children to high school they had to pay donations to private institutions. DonationsThey said that residents of areas such as Laxmisinganakeri, Nagarkar Colony, Gauli Galli, Attikolla, Jannatnagar, Chapparband Colony, Shivanandnagar, Damnagar, Toll Naka and Irani Colony were not in a position to pay donations, because of which their children were deprived of high school education. They said that “petty politics” of BJP leaders had dashed their hopes of providing high school education to their children. The protesters urged the Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad to inform the Governor on the need for a government high school in Yammikeri and get the order on shifting the school revoked. They also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Deputy Commissioner to a senior official of the district administration. They warned of agitation if there was no positive response in this regard within a week.
