Berhampur varsity abuzz with activity

BERHAMPUR: Berhampur University is agog with activity, what with the three-day youth cultural festival – Winterfest-2007 – scheduled from December 20.

Being held for the first time on the campus, the festival aims at bringing youth representatives from all over the State onto one platform at this major education and cultural centre of South Orissa.

Post Graduate council chairman of the university Bauri Bandhu Kar told newsmen here on Saturday that the university administration, its students’ union and its dramatic society were jointly organising the event.

Students’ union president Jhasaketan Padhi and dramatic society secretary S. Gouda said the cultural event would provide a gala time for participants. Mr. Kar said they had invited 130 colleges in the State to participate in the festival to make it a State-level affair. “It will also provide scope for students of colleges in tribal pockets to interact with their counterparts from urban areas,” he said.

Each participating college was allowed depute am eight-member team. The organisers were expecting more than 800 students for the cultural fest, which would witness events like music, art, acting, antakshari, debate and quiz contests. The highlight would be the ‘Winter Queen’ contest. A special film quiz would also be organised.
