Memorandum submitted to Manmohan Singh

‘Delhi dehat badly needs good primary schools and better educational facilities’

‘The Government should apply an inclusive development model for rural areas’

NEW DELHI: All-India Congress Committee member and Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Naresh Kumar met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the weekend and submitted a memorandum demanding better education and reservation for Jats and inclusive growth in Delhi dehat (rural).

Training institutes

In his memorandum, Mr. Kumar said the Government should provide reservation for Jats at the Central Government level.

The memorandum made the point that Delhi dehat badly needs good primary schools and better educational facilities and that there is also a crying need for professional colleges and vocational training institutes in the rural areas.

According to the memorandum, the students of Delhi dehat used to get a concession of 5 per cent marks for admission to colleges but the Bharatiya Janata Party discontinued the privilege in 1994. It demanded that this concession should be immediately restored.

The memorandum said the Government should draw up an elaborate master plan for Delhi dehat in which villagers’ interests are fully protected.

Rehabilitation

“While acquiring land in villages, the Government should apply an inclusive development model. It should acquire 20 per cent additional land for allotment to villagers – 10 per cent for residential and 10 per cent for commercial purposes – that would ensure both rehabilitation and livelihood for the villagers,” it said.

The memorandum also demanded that the rate of land acquisition be enhanced from Rs.75 lakh per acre at present to Rs.1.5 crore per acre.

Demolitions

Mr. Kumar also apprised the Prime Minister of the situation arising out of demolition of houses in Harijan Basti by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in Delhi dehat’s Mundka village and demanded alternative plot and shops for those affected.
